Not all Medicare providers are "participating" providers. Why is this important? Participating Providers are health care providers that have entered into a contract with the Medicare Part B program. This means that we have agreed to accept assignment for all items and services furnished to Medicare beneficiaries.
Accepting assignment means accepting Medicare's approved amount as payment in full, except for any deductible or coinsurance. Medicare Part B will usually pay 80% of the approved amount. The remaining 20% - called insurance - is your responsibility. Most Medicare supplement insurance plans will help to pay this 20%.
